Book Title: Solid Waste Management: Principles, Processing and Disposal Techniques | Sustainable Waste Systems Guide | AGPH Books
Solid Waste Management: Principles, Processing and Disposal Techniques presents a comprehensive and contemporary study of one of today’s most pressing environmental challenges. The book targets students, educators, researchers, and practitioners. It combines scientific principles with practical applications. In doing so, it presents solid waste management as both a technical discipline and a social responsibility.
The opening chapters explain the concept, scope, and types of solid waste. They also examine environmental and public health impacts in clear terms. The book builds a strong foundation through discussions on integrated waste management principles. It also reviews the regulatory and institutional frameworks governing the sector. Subsequent chapters describe waste generation patterns, on-site storage, segregation, and collection systems. They further explain transportation logistics and transfer station operations. Each stage highlights efficiency and sustainability. The text then introduces major processing and treatment methods. These include mechanical sorting, composting, anaerobic digestion, incineration, pyrolysis, and gasification. Each technique is explained with clarity and practical relevance.
Dedicated sections focus on recycling, reuse, and resource recovery. They emphasize material-specific technologies and support the transition toward a circular economy. The book also details landfill engineering, leachate and gas management, and post-closure care. A separate section addresses hazardous and biomedical waste management. It stresses safety, regulatory compliance, and ethical practices.
The concluding chapter explores waste-to-energy systems, smart technologies, community participation, and policy tools. It also discusses climate-resilient strategies for sustainable development. Overall, the book serves as a structured and forward-looking guide for building responsible waste management systems.
