Book Title: Plant Ecology and Environmental Interaction | AGPH Books
Plant Ecology and Environmental Interactions is designed as a comprehensive academic resource for understanding plants as integral components of ecosystems and examining their continuous interactions with the physical and biological environment. The book explains ecological principles from the level of individual plants and populations to communities and ecosystems, providing a structured foundation for the study of plant ecology. The book begins with fundamental concepts such as the nature, scope and historical development of plant ecology, ecological organisation, ecosystem components and ecological principles. It subsequently examines climatic, edaphic and topographic factors, including light, temperature, water and atmospheric conditions that influence plant distribution and growth. Population ecology, plant distribution, community structure, stratification, succession, species richness and diversity are discussed to develop an understanding of vegetation patterns and community dynamics. A major focus is placed on environmental interactions and plant adaptations. The book explores mutualism, competition, plant water relations, mineral nutrition, adaptations to terrestrial and aquatic habitats, and physiological responses to environmental stresses. These topics demonstrate how plants adjust to changing environmental conditions and contribute to ecosystem stability. The book is useful for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Botany, Plant Ecology, Environmental Science, Life Sciences and related disciplines. It may also serve as a reference for teachers, researchers and learners seeking a systematic understanding of plant environment relationships.
