Book Title: Health Management in Aquaculture: Principles and Practices | Aquatic Animal Health | AGPH Books
Health Management in Aquaculture presents a comprehensive and practical guide to ensuring the well-being of cultured fish and shellfish, a cornerstone for sustainable and profitable aquaculture. As global demand for aquatic food rises, maintaining healthy stocks has become essential to maximize productivity, reduce economic losses, and protect environmental integrity. This book bridges foundational concepts with modern strategies, offering readers an integrated perspective on aquatic health management. The text begins by introducing aquaculture systems and emphasizing the economic and ecological significance of effective health management. It provides an in-depth exploration of common pathogens, disease categories, and host-pathogen-environment interactions, helping readers understand disease development and pathogenic mechanisms. Advanced topics in diagnostics, surveillance, and antimicrobial resistance equip professionals with tools for early detection, accurate monitoring, and strategic intervention. A key strength of the book lies in its coverage of therapeutics and innovations, including vaccines, probiotics, immunostimulants, phytobiotics, and nanotechnology applications, highlighting cuttingedge approaches to maintaining fish health. Preventive measures, best management practices, biosecurity, water and feed quality management, and seed health strategies are thoroughly discussed to ensure resilient and high-performing aquaculture systems. Additionally, the book addresses policy frameworks, regulatory standards, public– private partnerships, capacity building, and research priorities to guide sustainable development and innovation in the sector. Designed for students, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, this book blends scientific rigor with practical insights. It empowers readers to adopt evidence-based strategies, safeguard aquatic health, and advance sustainable, responsible, and innovative aquaculture worldwide.
